We have been exploring the latest smart TVs from LG and Samsung as well as TCL, Sony and TCL's Vizio in the past few months. Our buying guide also includes older models, as there are many sets available from 2021. These sets are often discounted up to 40% or 50% making them excellent buys.
These older sets are great if you have limited funds, which is common for many. This could be a good opportunity to buy one of OLED TVs at a lower price or to purchase one of OLED TVs with 75 inch resolutions.
These selections represent the very best of smart TVs, including the most advanced 4K TVs and 8K TVs. They have been tested by our skilled reviewers. We then used a wide range of tests to determine which screen is the most value for money. Check out the top-rated ones.
1. LG C2 OLED TV
The LG C2 OLED has regained the top spot in our list of 2022's best TVs after dropping a few spots. This is due to many improvements LG made to this model over the LG C1 LED.
The new Alpha a9 Gen 5 processor is available for improvements in 2022. It offers better object enhancement and dynamic ton mapping than its predecessor. You also get 'virtual surround audio' with the TV scaling stereo content to 7.1.2-channel sound. Although we were not convinced by the virtual surround sound claims, the flat screen TV's audio performance is excellent. There are many sound modes that will allow you to choose the best audio profile for your needs.
The C2 OLED also carries the four HDMI 2.1 ports it inherited from C1 OLED. This makes it the perfect companion for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
However, the LG C2 isn’t perfect. The off-axis color saturation can decrease slightly when you move to either the left or the right of the screen, compared to new QD-OLED models. LG also doesn't support HDR10+ or IMAX Enhanced formats.
While there are higher resolution flat screen TVs available, such as the Samsung QN900B with 8K resolution and the upgraded LG G2 OLED with a slightly higher peak lighting, this TV is still the best value for money in 2022.
2. TCL 6-Series LED Mini-LED
We were stunned to learn that the TCL 6-Series 2020QLED (R635) would be using Mini LED. This is because the same technology was used in the TCL 6-Series 2020 QLED (R635) a year ago and it cost hundreds more than the extremely affordable 6-Series.
Although it's not the ultimate LED-LCD, we didn't expect it to be. It has poor motion handling and limited brightness. However, it is an extraordinary value that we would recommend to almost everyone.
The 6-Series TV is brighter and more colorful than ever before. It doesn't have any light bleeding or haloing. It features a new design to conceal cables. This TV is also the first to have THX Certified Game Mode for 1440p/120Hz gaming.
Although it's not the ideal flat screen TV for next-gen gamers who want a companion for their Xbox Series X and PS5 at 4K at 120fps or PS5, this TV is the perfect smart TV for those who are looking to stream Netflix, Hulu, or just enjoy the viewing experience.
3. Vizio H-1 OLED TV
The Vizio OLED TV 2020, officially known as the H1, was released last year. It is a more affordable alternative to the premium screens that Sony and LG have been making for the past few decades. The Vizio OLED is a great option for those who don't have the budget to buy expensive OLEDs. It has many of the same key features as the other OLEDs and offers similar performance for hundreds of less.
The Vizio OLED screen is an OLED screen. It has some great advantages, but also some flaws. The OLED screen has exceptional black levels and a very thin chassis. OLED also offers a wide viewing angle and exceptional contrast that most people can appreciate. OLEDs are not as bright as LED-LCD counterparts. Vizio's OLED is the worst.
Vizio's Smart Cast platform is another problem with this flat screen TV. It is missing some key apps and can take a while to get up and running after it is set up. We feel the Vizio OLED's scaling algorithms aren't as robust as those of Sony or LG. On more than one occasion, we noticed a grainy effect on HD sources.
After all the details are considered, you will find a budget OLED that excels in 4K HDR content but struggles with HD upscaling.
4. Samsung QN900B
Although 8K may seem a bit excessive for some, the Samsung QN900B Ne QLED 8K TV is a superior product. Samsung's Mini LED-sporting QN900B Ne QLED 8K TV delivers stunning picture quality, outstanding color and brightness, and exceptional blacks, all in an unbeatable package.
Samsung's Quantum Mini LEDs are 1/40th thicker than regular LEDs. This means that thousands of smaller LEDs can fit together in a tighter manner, which allows for more precise dimming zones and black levels, almost indistinguishable to OLEDs.
The LEDs are smaller and can achieve greater precision and less blooming. Therefore, the tendency to see bright spots of the screen bleed into darker areas should be reduced or eliminated entirely. The QN900A uses Samsung's Multi-Intelligence AI Upscaling to consistently produce images that look better than the source.
It is ranked third. The new Smart Hub UI will be introduced to Samsung's top TV models in 2022. The interface has been completely redesigned and is anchored by a Google TV-inspired homescreen that displays content recommendations from various streaming subscriptions.
The frustration of switching to a full-screen home menu with lots of content is not uncommon. You can't adjust settings or change viewing modes quickly. Instead, you have to leave what you are watching or playing by navigating to a sidebar menu and then scroll down to a separate settings list to do actions that were only a few clicks away.
Although it's minor, having a smart TV platform that works well is essential to winning the top spot in our list of best TVs.
5. LG G2 OLED TV
The LG G2 OLED is the TV for you if price is not a concern and you just want the best TV available at any price. With its additional brightness, the OLED65G2 makes every frame from any source look more stunning than any LG OLED before.
The G2 OLED has the same design name as the GX and G1 predecessors but it looks totally different. Instead of a dark frame and chamfered edges the G2 OLED features a clever two-layer effect. A thin black rear "slab" sits proudly and is slightly wider than the front tier housing the screen. It's covered in a silver metal coat that is very elegant and luxurious-looking.
The G2 OLED's connections are of exceptional quality. All four HDMI ports can handle the maximum 48Gbps data support by HDMI 2.1. This allows gamers to connect an Xbox Series X and PS5 simultaneously, allowing them to enjoy full-fat 4K at 120Hz and variable refresh rates, as well as automatic low latency mode switching. You'll still be able to add a 4K Bluray player or streaming box via the HDMI.
Anyone who has used LG OLED TVs in the past years will know that the added brightness of the heat sink unlocks color volume and punch. This is regardless of whether the colors are very bright, vibrant, or subtle.
The result is an OLED TV that is so great it barely misses our top spot. Its price makes it difficult for average TV viewers to afford it. Cinephiles should invest.
